i was studying today, and i was reading on a topic that would be really interesting to BB ppl, and also future leadership, its a bit advanced to wat u learn in BNTS..anyway, d topic is about leadership, which includes approaches to leadership and d functions of a leader..
in approaches to leadership, there are a few types of approaches, where one of em is traits approach to leadership. according to this approach, a leader must possess certain qualities if they are to function effectively. some of these traits include intelligence, dominance, honesty, foresight, altruism, popularity, sociability, cooperativeness, knowledge, and dependebility.
functional approach, where it focuses on wat a leader should do in a given situation. its more on the roles that d leader should play, like setting goals for the group.
transformational approach talks about the leader putting importance in his or her members. this means that d group not only gets d task done, d members learn new skills, or be more empowered.
situational approach focuses on two major responsibilities of leadership, accomplishing the task at hand and ensuring the satisfaction of the members.
the group that u will be working with will have different maturity levels, therefore there are different styles to suit the maturity(maturity here means task and relationship maturity, where d members are capable of doing d task and working with a group of ppl) level..
there is d telling style, which is most appropriate for a group with low levels of maturity, where d leader is significantly more knowledgeable or more powerful
d selling style, which is like coaching the members to finish d task at hand..its like how a coach would energize and motivate his or her players for a big game.
next is the participating style, where d leader is more focused on his or her member's participation in the group and also the satisfaction and member relationship.
finally is the delegating style, where it is often used in mature and knowledgeable groups. it is very laissez-faire style, where members are allowed to set its own goals, and technically do everything by them selves..the leader is just responsible for the groups actions, and has d power to reject and approve ideas..
it seems that this post is quite long, so i will post up d functions of a leader in another post..
